Building Custom Reports That Matter
Start With the Question, Not the Chart
The most useful reports start life as a question someone in your organization actually needs answered — "Which cohorts are falling behind on certification?" or "Where do learners drop off in onboarding?" — rather than a chart type. Write the question down first; it will decide everything else.
Choosing the Right Dimensions
Every Sereni LRS report is built from the same underlying xAPI properties. Pick dimensions that map directly to your question:
- actor — for learner or cohort-level views
- verb — for engagement and completion behaviour
- object / activity — for course and content performance
- context.registration — for session and attempt-level analysis
- timestamp — for trends over time
Templates vs. Custom Layouts
Start from a built-in template when your question is common — completion, pass rates, engagement — and switch to a fully custom layout when you need to combine multiple dimensions into a single operational view for stakeholders.
Sharing and Scheduling Reports
Once a report earns its place on someone's weekly review, save it, schedule it, and export it as CSV, Excel, or PDF so it reaches the right inbox automatically — no manual pulls required.
